"The Biennial is a trip to discover new worlds and also to be discovered and seduced by new movements, lenguages and imaginaries to think about dancing as a way to express our emotions" says Amparo Sinisterra de Carvajar, president of the 2nd Biennial.
This is the Pacific festival, in which the most importat thing is to highlight the gastronomy, the folk music and the traditions of this region in Valle del Cauca. It is an awesome experience for the locals and of course for the visitors who want to dive into this culture.
This is one of the most important and traditional festivals in Colombia. In which the favorite attractions are the "Salsódromo", the "Cali viejo" carnival, the antique cars parade, the "Melómanos" meeting, the "Superconcierto" a really nice musical show, between other shows ans events.
In the main plaza of Candelaria is a majestic church built in 1779, full of memories and collective work of the community, which worships the Virgin as patron of the municipality. The current temple is the result of the management of the parish priest Jesús Santos, the selfless support of the community, aid from the municipality and the local government.
In February, the “Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria” festival is celebrated and it is considered one of the oldest celebrations of Valle del Cauca. Loaded of Spanish inheritance, conserves the date in which the Virgin of Candelaria was appreciated in Tenerife (Spain). Therefore, every February 2 at five in the afternoon the festival begins with the procession of the virgin, welcoming the parishioners who commemorate the appearance of their protective and venerated Virgin.
How to get there?
To get to Candelaria municipality, from the transport terminal of Cali, you can take an intermunicipal bus. Two transport companies provide this service, one is Codetrans Palmira and the other one is Sultana del Valle, the route lasts approximately one hour and the price of the ticket is $ 3,500.
To find the imposing “Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria” church, you just have to go to the main plaza of Candelaria.
